UNICEF Tap Project – 10 Minutes Without Your Phone Water for Children In Africa
The UNICEF Tap Project was created by New York based design agency called Droga5 on March 22, 2007, which was also the official World Water Day. The concept was direct and simple – to encourage people worldwide to donate $1 or more and help children in 3rd world countries with clean drinking water. Each $1 donated will help a child with clean and safe water for 40 days, 40 days??? That is simply unbelievable! Most of us never give a damn about the scarcity of clean drinking water…
UNICEF Tap Project also teamed up various artist and celebrities and came up with more projects to raise funds. Such as below stylish looking water bottle set:
And also a project called ” dirty water vending machine “. On March 22, 2010, during World Water Week, UNICEF placed a Dirty Water Vending Machine, which allows people who donate $1 into the vending machine to sample the taste of the dirty water, reality bites! And not many New Yorkers actually taste the water, but nevertheless, this street activation raised $500,000.
For the first year, the project and its campaign was only on World Water Day and it raised $100,000 in funds. And since then, the UNICEF Tap Project had raised around $2.5 million. But 2.5 million is simply not enough to relieve all the people without sanitized water, 7 years after the project started, still, even today, sadly, approximated 768 million people around the world are still without access to safe drinking water, and nearly 4,100 children die from polluted water drinking related diseases EVERY SINGLE DAY…
This year, UNICEF project is striving to make a big change, and this time all of us can help, even without donating your cash. UNICEF has teamed up with Armani Fragrance and other generous donor around the world and come out with UNICEF Tap Project APP. Yes! An interesting and meaningful smart phone app that will help children worldwide.
How the app works is quite simple, simply open any browser in your smart phone and type in tap.unicefusa.org/mobile And you will see the below screen, and Simple leave your phone on a flat surface and follow below video instruction:
For every 10 minutes you leave your phone untouched, a child will receive clean water for one day. This is perfect for myself indeed because I will be forced not to constantly check my phone, and I think for many of us, smart phone is something we wasted too much of our precious time on. Let’s all help by actually participating, a project with a wonderful cause and good intention, and it is so easy to participate and it doesn’t cause you any money!
In case you simply cannot put down your phone and let it rest for 10 minutes, you can also help by choose to donate by Paypal or credit card. The suggested donation ranges from $5 to $100 USD, and for every $5 you donated, a child can have clean sanitized water for 200 days! Let’s do it and together we can make a difference, and make the world a better place!
